McLaren periodically does these comparos. I have one on tape from several years ago with Nikki Lauda in his Marlboro TAG McLaren on the OLD (8-turn) Silverstone circuit against two other cars. One of them was an euro-spec XR4ti... can't remember the faster road car, though.

Same handicapping... McLaren wins at the line, etc...

I'm viewing it perfectly fine with the standard Windows Media Player that came with my PC.

That was an AMG CCoupe, no C7 needed

2002 C230 K
It was a C200K Coupe - with the AMG evolution package (one step above the C7). Not sure why they didn't use the C230K AMG Evo; maybe to make more difference between the Coupe and SL55 (although it would have only been about 2 seconds at most). Last time they did this comparo they used an A-class, E50 and a '97 MP4-12; I remember the one MB-BOB mentioned as well. It was with the '84 MP4/2, a Porsche and some little British car (I only barely rembember this video but I think those were the cars used).

Cheers, BT

C 220 CDI £22,825 137 / 137 10.3/10.5 143 315 1505 4343

Taken from the UK Mercedes Page.
So they say there that the difference in the auto and the manny are only 1/10 difference in 0-60 times. Since the throttle is drive by wire, the throttle isa controlled by a signal to the ecu rather than pulling thge throttle cable as in other cars, you could "possibly" tweak the ecu settings to give instant throttle response, thus maybe allowing a faster 0-60 with the auto than the manny. But thats a BIG maybe

A little correction, Timmy : these times are not 0-60 mph, but 0-100km/h, which is 0-62.5 mph.

In this case, assuming the car accelerates evenly (constant acceleration), the time 0-60 would be 8.1 * (60/62.5) = 7.78 s. Big difference!

In real life, car's acceleration is never a constant, it varies depending on gear, RPM, drag and other factors, but this calculated time difference between 0-60 mph and 0-100km/h is close enough to that in real life.

The best part is seeing the F1 car BLOW past the DTM car on the last straight before the start/finish. Wow.

You can buy a CLK GTR which is better than CLK DTM for some 1.2 million . It's just a matter of finding one of the 25 in the world. I'm sure a broker could find one for you.

Anyone else suprised at how fast the DTM car is compared to F1? I thought that the DTM would have needed a much bigger lead than it did....

I think this race would have been slightly cooler at a different track. One where the speed differentials at the finish could be magnified, such as Monza or Indy, as opposed to the tight turns of Silverstone that causes the cars to bunch up near the end of the lap. I think both of the racing cars were held up waiting for the road cars to get out of the way.

Power to weight ratios:
McLaren MP4/16 = 1323 lbs/~850 hp = 1.56 lb/hp
CLK-DTM = 2381 lbs/~500 hp = 4.76 lb/hp
SL55 = 4310 lbs/500 hp = 8.62 lb/hp
C200K = 3240 lbs/163 hp = 19.88 lb/hp

For each progressive step the power to weight ratio improves by around a factor of two. I think that it seems like the DTM would need a bigger lead since it has about the same number of horses as the SL55, however it's easy to overlook that it weighs half as much (using slicks probably doesn't hurt either).

Cheers, BT
