sup to all.
just got a 2002 s430 pre-owned 2 days ago. as a former bmw owner, i have to saw that driving the benz is an experience.
bmw bills itself as the ultimate driving machine and it is, but driving my benz is like sailing on a sailboat. i drove my friend's s500 years ago and it felt like a cloud but i couldn't appreciate it cause i was still in my 20's and wanted to go formula one. now that i'm 30-plus, i want that smoothness. i got smoothness.
wanted to share and say cheers to all.
nice to be aboard.

An S-class is the 7-series competitor and is much more likely to hold its value.
Used 7-series are rather dogs on the used market.
I'm surprised BMW sells any 7-series, but find 5-series models pretty nice cars.
If it's the big limousine you want, you did the right thing getting an S-class.
Just like the 7-series, however, German culture is that these cars are executive limousines more than family cars and are expected to be dealer maintained and that they need lots of it and they don't take kindly to skimping on keeping them up.

Congratulations, welcome to the forum and to the world of Mercedes-Benz!
"Ultimate Driving Machines" the BMWs might be, but in my opinion, you are now in an entirely different league - especially beginning with an S-Class.
Keep an eye on the 430 engine, in terms of oil consumption. There was a class action suit filed and won, by some poor guy whose 430 was a little thirsty. If you prove to Daimler-Chrysler's satisfaction that yours is using too much, they will replace the engine![Wink](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Oh, and don't forget to jump into the W220 forum with specific questions.
Hope this is of some value,
M
