It's an old car, so rust, hardened wiring, engine issues like chain and guides, FI points in the lower section of the distributor. Buy the most expensive one you can afford with service history and/or parts receipts.

crb49: I thought you had a buyer lined up for that, what happened?
Remember, you answered my question about a real pile of junk a friend of mine was looking into. He didn't buy it, so I guess he listened to your advice.

Hey Music...thanks for asking. Still have it and can't really say I'm that disappointed.
I finally broke down and put it on the line at my mechanics. He mainly turns over late model Porsches but knows what kind of car it it. He's been the only one to touch it for twenty years.
I was driving the 500 today and couldn't stop thinking about the 380. What a wonderful piece. Sort of a like an aristocratic older gentleman still in good health. You can't help but been inspired when you around them.
Regarding the 140. What a tank and a joy to drive. I saw a beautiful black 600 at a dealer when I was in the market for my 320 a couple of years ago. Low miles and absolutely stunning. I think they wanted about $50k for it at the time.
The question in my mind is if the heavier, boxy lines will play out for them in later years. They are, however, toward the end of the all German ownership era.
Benzes are somewhat in a catch 22, IMHO. They traditionally have such long body style runs and last so long that (1) there are a lot of them sold and (2) it's a while before they come off the road. The old supply and demand deal. Almost too good. What a problem, huh.
I'm probably not the one to be a speculator because my main jones is just owning and driving them. And if that's for a long time, I'm good with that. The new technology is always tempting, though. Right now I'm considering rolling over the 320 in the fall but I'm not sure I will give it up just yet. I'll probably keep it for a couple more years and see what the new E series looks like.
Heading up the cost to Carmel on a golf outing with some buddies next week. Driving the 500. And then the end of the month taking the 320 to Seattle and Canada for a few weeks with my wife. I can't wait to get them both on a nice road trip. Life is good. Stay in touch.
Regards,
P.S. Tufers, if you're atill out there. I'd still be willing to talk.
