Thumbs down What Inspired This Dreadfully Inelegant Trash?

So I was browsing eBay this morning, as I am often in the habit of doing when I am bored at work, and I came across the following item:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

I can't say that such a modification would be to my own taste, but to each his own... I suppose.

I am a bit curious, however, to know what may have served as inspiration for such a product's existence.

Has Mercedes ever incorporated similar (*ahem*) design elements into any of their concept or production vehicles?

I have never seen it if they have, but some of you are certainly likely to be far more knowledgable about the particulars of MB production history than I.

Later,
Tom

You should add a poll selection labeled "To Each His Own"

it is not my style, but the LED thing is a pretty big craze these days...and I guess if it tickles someone's fancy...all the power to them

I prefer the classic neon tubes underneath. Even better if they are coordinated with the stereo base output.

I like it and I planned on doing it to my car myself. LED's are cheap, wiring is cheap as well.

It's just I don't have a car anymore

Like kev04 says, i'ts a Brabus thing. My car came back from their shop with 'em installed. Hit the remote button at night and on they come -lock it and they gently fade to off.

Don't knock it till you see it in person. It's way cooler then you might expect...........

I agree these "puddle lights" are actually pretty cool in person! Especially at night when they illuminate the ground so you can see what you're stepping on

Looks pretty cool. And the fact that it only serves as a puddle light, meaning it only comes on whenever you unlock or open the doors makes me like it even more. Not ricey at all.

ROTF! If it prevents us from stepping on dog waste before entering our babies, then I'm all for it. I'll admit that I voted for "I hate it" before I saw your post. Can I change my vote now Tom? haha

I think those are a great idea if they are puddle lights only; not running while the car is driving down the road. Ellegant, even. However, the 4 LED design seems like a cheap implementation. If it were a bar of light (polycarbonate light pipe? small flourescent?) under each door, that would be extremely nice and I'd actually consider adding it to my car. One of the E-class guys already has that, right?

By the way, Tom, your Jag is the sexiest model of car on the road (that a reasonable person can afford, anyway; the DB9 still has it beat). Your signature would be hotter if you took out the picture of the girl and added another one of the car!

W203 slightly modified
I thought you were polling the rims till I saw the LED's. Seeing as some people have inground lamps in their driveway I missed the leds totally.

Pretty slick idea. Now if they turned on and off with the beat of the stereo or sumthing.....
