UK/BAA Ban on Electronic Key Fobs

I am interested in knowing from those of us in the UK how the ban on electronic key fobs is applying to our Merc Smartkeys. I travel overseas via London a lot and wonder if this will effect me. Also, is there a worry that if people check their electronic keys into the stowed luggage that auto theft might become a problem?

I'm flying through London in the next week, however I am trying to reroute as we speak. If I have to do it, key fob is going to get put in my suitcase, hidden inside something else, so there is no temptation for theft.

The one thing that bothers me more is having to put my laptop in my suitcase, which is the dumbest thing you could possibly do. I've seen too many broken that way.

Watch out trying to hid items.. I have found that if you pack a suitcase with dense items close together I always end up with a inspected by TSA sticker. But if you spread dense items out for example dont stack books on top of each other I never end up with a TSA sticker.

About laptops I would seriously Fed Ex it over night with insurance.. I had a TSA person break my LCD screen by flipping it over right before the x ray machine, now think about them not doing this in front of you and getting a broken laptop when you arrive they will blame it on the airline and you will basically get nothing for it. Also for stolen items they will claim it was never in the bag. But with Fed ex my theory is the dont not want to lose/break a $2k laptop since they will end up paying for it.
