Tpms

How do I find out if my 2002 S430 has tire monitoring? I can't get it to display and the book sounds like it was standard equipment then.

It wasn't standard. If it doesn't display on your cluster, you probably don't have it. It was code 475 and was a $615 option. I don't imagine many S430s had it. You can check your build for that code to be certain.

BTW, TPMS was standard starting with 2004.

look at your wheels and find the valve stems where you fill them with air. If they are the normal black rubber ones then you do not have the system.

True, the valve stems are metal and are bolted to the wheels on a W220 with TPMS. But for completeness, some MB models use indirect TPMS. Those systems don't use special sensor-transponders integrated with the valves like the 220. Rather, the ABS system does double duty and computes the pressure from the rolling radius of the tire. So not everyone with a TPMS-equipped Mercedes should expect to see metal valve stems.

true, but you will only find that system on the newer cars.
