O'Keefe v. Mercedes-Benz USA = More Warranty!
Just got a letter in the mail from MBZ and a $35 service coupon concerning a class action law suit. Some guy sued MBZ because his 98 or up Mercedes with FSS developed engine sludge while using regular oil instead of synthetic. Mercedes did not make the recommendation for pure synthetic oil in FSS cars until March 2001.
Mercedes will now cover these FSS cars up to 150k miles. It states:
To demonstrate our commitment to superior performance quality, we will cover your vehicle up to ten years from the date of first purchase or lease or 150,000 miles (whichever occurs firts) under the terms of the existing warranty or any extended warranty you have purchased from MBUSA in the unlikely event of any future oil sludging or related engine damage in your vehicle from the use of conventional, approved motor oil (API SH or SJ).

Extended warranty coverage
Is the entire vehicle covered for 10/150K (ie my automatic window) or is it just the engine that is covered ? Also, will there be free scheduled maintenance during the 10 years?? Just wondering since I have a 2001 E430 bought in 10/00.

I think, as usual, only the class action lawyers made out on this. They didn't get an extended warranty, they bought new cars!!!
From the wording posted, you will only have coverage for an oil sludge problem or other problem that is shown to have occurred because you used an approved "conventional" rather than synthetic oil. If this is a problem for someone who used "approved conventional" oil and that is shown to be the cause of the problem, they will get coverage.
No coverage for windows, free scheduled maintenance, etc. unless you can connect it up with "oil sludge resulting from use of approved conventional oil". Let's see............be creative now......
