If you had $40,000 to buy a Mercedes today what's the best buy in terms of quality and style?

40k?
I'd buy a 96+ Sl and a 2002 E55. And have some money left over for goodies for them.

There's no way for someone to answer this question for someone else. It depends on what you want from the car. I love the CL/S/SL classes, many prefer E, C etc. I personally love having a V12 rocket and a diesel for everyday use.

Are you wanting new or used? If you are talking new, I think the C-Class is the only MB you can get for under $40k. Even a fairly basic one (like mine) is well over $30k.

If you are talking used, you have a lot more options. But first, do you want sport or luxury? Do you want large or small? Do you want a sedan, coupe, or SUV?
