I'm picking up my 08 E550 in a few days.

I was told by the dealer today that they need to do a credit check even on an all cash buyer. They've apparently started doing this post-9/11 because the credit report tells them whether the buyer is on the "terrorist watch list."

Sounds like a bunch of bull to me, but I'd like to hear opinions on this.

Thanks,
Vik

Check w/ couple of my wifes friends ( car sales ladies ).
it is BS. At least in Illinois; No Loan (cash buy), No Credit Check. All they do is: run your check through vericheck or some other check verifying service, unless certified funds- no verification needed.

Regards
Jack

Welcome to the Post 9/11 World
Not BS as at all. Just happened to a colleague buying a used Honda from a local Honda dealer.
Here's the link:

They did a credit check; everything was peachy, but it delayed the deal a few days.

Yup, I confirmed. They do it, but it'll take a few minutes, not a few days. Its as simple as pulling your credit and looking for the OFAC section, which, hopefully shouldn't exist on your report.

Yes, they did a credit check on me, too. Granted it was a Dodge dealer. I had a BMW dealer do that too.
