1989 420 SEL
Classic/Old Mercedes-Benz collectors

I was wondering if there were any well-known classic Mercedes-Benz collectors around - particularly in California.
Also out of curiosity, let's say I was to put a 1989 420 SEL on sell in excellent condition [original owner, clean history, original parts, runs clean] with about 36000 miles. Is there a market out there for it? Just curious.

Yes there is a market out there but your car is not a historic or collectable car. Sounds like it would be a good daily driver but the market for it is the normal used car market and it should bring top dollar in its class as a ordinary used car.

I am sorry to say that I agree, it is a daily driver.
I purchased an 89 420SEL 16K one celebrity owner miles. It was bought from the estate of Perry Como.
I was going to resell it, but could not get what I thought it should have drawn. The year and month were July 2002.
I waited and tried to sell it again and still not enough.
I decided what had been told to me, which was drive it, was the best suggestion.

Being a sedan, myself being a coupe guy, I traded my folks straight up for a 1991 Old 98 150k on it.

At first my mom said but that car is older than what I drive now. After driving it less than 10 miles she fell in love.
Her comments were, "well I am a red head and the ice blue color goes well with my hair and my green eyes". My mom is the ORIGINAL LUCILE BALL! If you meet her you would have to agree.
They have put 34k on the car in the past 5 years.
They both turned 80 this past month and love the car, and I still have the car to do the repairs for them and it is still in A1 shape.

If you can't get what you want for it, than drive it. We all know that these cars are either excellent or near junk after 20 years. If you have a good one keep it.

Bruce

PS Love the color. The same as mine, exception is I have the nave blue interior.
