Not hard to imagine at all--article explains it all well.

Unlike USA auto industry, German industy is very much fed by independent suppliers, especially Bosch.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for MB to go back to inline 6 engines or for BMW to adopt V6 engines, however.

I too read the article however I took it to mean parts purchased from vendors such as Bosch and others for larger purchases and better discounts as opposed to MB and BMW mfg parts and components like engines/transmissions, etc.
