cool models at my dealer..
Wanted to share a cool find that I first saw at my new local dealer. I was doing a service C and waiting in the customer area when I noticed in their display cases these really nice, spare no expense looking models and so I admired them and drooled but didn't even think to ask if they sell them as they looked to me like custom made $1000+ models.. they were in 1:18 scale.. so the service adviser comes up to me and says, "you want to buy one??" I said, "I'd love to but I'd have to sell my real mercedes to afford it" he said "no, they're not too bad, between $200-$300 for most of them..
I was shocked, but he took one out of the case and we handled it and it was amazing... it was the white elephant SSLK model which is said to have over 1800 different parts, and when you study it carefully, you'll se that the suspension is functional, down to the real leaf springs and torsion bars.. The engine alone has some 500 parts.. The way the costs are kept down is they're manufactured in China, which sort of bugs me, but you have to believe if there were made in Germany, they'd be over $2000 each.. I've got German brass model trains that are not as well detailed that cost closet to $3000 so I'm sure that would be on the low side of the estimate.
Anyway, I've not been able to take some pictures of them to do them justice, so I stole some good pics of the internet of the two that I bought..
