AMG Rumors... E-Class Black Series, plus more hard-core CLK63 BS?
Black Series E-Class, Plus More Extreme CLK63 Black Series?
November 14, 2008
During our recent test of the SL65 AMG Black Series, we had the chance to sit down with both MBUSA communications director Geoff Day and AMG boss Volker Mornhinweg and they shared some interesting information with us...sort of.
E-Class Black Series
Mornhinweg hinted that a Black Series version of the E-Class might be on the way. Referring to the AMG version of the E300 (known as the Hammer), he commented that it might be time for a Super Hammer to make its debut. There is no word on whether a Black Series version of the E-Class would be of the current model or of the redesigned vehicle, which is due out in 2010. AMG will, however, begin to use direct injection technology in its new models, something that will increase both power and fuel efficiency.
CLK63 Black Series II
While at the racetrack for the SL65 AMG Black Series test, we couldn’t help but notice that AMG staff were using modified CLK63s as pace cars. Looking more like DTM racers than street machines, Day informed us that the CLKs are in fact being used as development platforms for parts that will eventually see their way into street cars. After another talk with Mornhinweg, who mentioned that even more extreme models from AMG are certainly possible, we can’t help but wonder if these pace cars will make it to the street as an even more rare model. Black Series DTM perhaps? We can only dream.
