somethings better left unsaid ...
new guy with a problem :)

Hello everyone...

I have a small problem with my passion with cars, and I think this forum is the best place to find answers, since lots of you are European car experts and also most of you are Americans. Thing is, my passion is sort of exclusive to European cars, no disrespect to American cars and with all due respect to American engineering - I know lots of you are still fans, and I personally admire the good sides to the American way of car-engineering - It's just that they don't float my boat as they say. Anyway here's my problem;

I'm pretty much sure a Ferrari costs so much because of all the sophistication that lies within the Ingenious engineering that goes within that car, I've seen a documentary (or whatever you call those) about how a Ferrari is made and it's just REDICOULOUSLY complicated and in a good way, the attention to details in every single aspect in that car is just unbelievable! And I do believe it's in an entirely different universe than a Corvette for instance. But then, if in the end they both go round a track in similar times or have similar 1/4 miles timings then why the hell go through all the complications and why the hell pay 2-3 times the price? Is all what am buying a feel?! I know off course there are differences, stuff like ride quality, class, or the idea that it performs slightly better in a track and feels slightly better on road but is that really worth all the money and efforts put in a Ferrari?

Same goes for the queen of all cars, the mother of all internal combustion engines, the company that has my forever loyalty; The Mighty Mercedes Benz. I've always said we pay this much more for the quality, the engineering, the feel, the touch of class, the attention to details ... the "jegum" you get when you slam a Merc door, or the feel of the wood trimming and the leathery smell, well you know what I mean .... I used to say all that but then came the Cadillac! Or whatever you call it. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying it feels the same but I'm saying it's not all that different and it costs HELL lot less, and actually - hurts me to say - has a lot better quality to it, you know, trim pieces don’t fall off in three weeks kinda quality.

Don't get me wrong again, I'm not asking why do some people think a Ferrari is better than a Corvette or why some other people think a Merc is in a different league than a Caddy, or whatever they call it, what I'm actually asking is what are the things that I feel (and know they exist!) but don't understand, things that actually FORM my enthusiasm, my passion for a Ferrari, my ENORMOUS amount of respect for Mercedes, things that you find in an Audi and make you just don’t care Audis come at the end of the reliability lists and that they cost fortunes, you’re still gonna buy one anyway…

What are the things that Germans do and Americans never cared about...
Any help would be much appreciated

Sorry about the lengthy post, and very happy to join this wonderful forum

Oh yea … and if any of the examples I said was wrong about any car then apologies, I didn’t mean for it to sound factual
