Replacing Fuel Cap

My stupid check engine light comes on and off. Last time time I went to my mechanic, he showed me the error codes and they were coming from the fuel cap. I'm going to have it replaced. I was wondering if it's a simple procedure and/or if I can do it myself instead of wasting time and $. By the way, it's an 02 CL600.

It's pretty simple.

Buy new cap

Throw away old cap

PS: They don't sell Mercedes parts at Pep Boys. Go to Mercedes dealer.

Well, mine has an insulated wire which connects the fuel cap to the car. What about its effects on the "Check Engine Light"?

Obviously I would purchase an OEM part...it's not really wise to put cheap aftermarket parts on a 600 Benz.

If the cap isn't sealing, your gas tank won't maintain the normal pressure, which will set the CEL.

Replacing Fuel Cap

CoupeLeicht600...........

FYI, I experienced this condition on several different ocassions which was serviced by the dealer. It was initially repaired as a fuel cap problem. On the third attemp it was noted as a purge valve leak and required replacement of a new valve to correct problem. Maybe you should have it diagnosed by a certified benz repair shop if the fuel cap deal does not eliminate the condition and to correct the issue. My 2% on the issue.
