W124 500e vs. W210 E55...What would you buy?

W124 500e vs. W210 E55...What would you buy?
OK, so I sold my 1993 300ce (3.2l). I regret it completely! I am out for a new one. While I love the W124, I felt it could handle better, but I adored its quality. I like the 500E and I know its alot to maintain, thats not really the issue though. I am interested in the E55, but I want that Mercedes vault like feel and thrust at high speeds. Please help me balance my decision. I cant just go test drive these cars. One is in DC and the other is in Seatle...with either car I will have to fly-to-drive.

The 500E/E500 will hold its value better.
The E55 is more modern and has a significantly nicer transmission, but IMHO the W210 sedan has lost its "current" look more than any other Mercedes I can think of and this car isn't noted for sound construction or reliablity.
For the 500E look for one that hasn't been modified and don't do that yourself if you get one. These are the only Porsche-assembled Mercedes ever and deserve to be preserved.

Owned Both wonderful examples of the '94 e500 & '01 e55
Both great cars when operating as the factory intended!
(+) engineering and feel of the E500E (-but) high deferred maintenance, repair, & parts costs
(+) bullet proof performance, reliability, and low running costs of the '00-'02 W210 E55's
It may help to test drive local examples of each car and decide the attributes you like best.
Naturally the E55 offers higher luxury and performance vs. the older E500E.
