MB production scheduling process?

I'm wondering whether anyone has any detail about how Mercedes manages its customer order supply chain. I'm eagerly awaiting my SL500 and have yet to get a specific build date out of my dealer. I do have a NetStar printout of my specific car, to my spec, that the dealer has given me. This printout indicates that I'm scheduled for the third "decade" (last ten days) of March, which we are obviously in. My dealer says he expects that I will change to "produced not shipped" status by this Friday, but cannot give me a specific build date. I realize that something as complex as a modern car really doesn't have one specific "build date" as all of the different sub-assemblies are built at different times (body, engine, etc.) but am curious how this works. Does the car come together in pieces during the work week, with the build date assigned after the fact?
