Part hanging from Rear Right by 2 wires??
Hello.
I recently purchased a 2003 C230 Coupe. I was changing my wheels to the summer set today when I noticed something hanging from the rear of the car on the right hand side just behind the tire.
It is hanging from 2 fairly large wires ( approximately 10ga ). At first glance I thought that it may be a heating pad to de-ice the wheel well.... Anyone know anything about that ? I was also thinking that maybe it was an impact sensor for the air bags or something like that.
I should mention that I bought the car used and it has been painted so it is likely not installed because it either fell off during an impact or it was never reinstalled when they repaired the damaged area.
I've searched this site and google but I can't seem to find any info about this. Any ideas/help would be appreciated.
Thanks
found this on the part and some patent numbers a203 820 1675

Tele aid or e-call system antenna according to EPC.
ps - if you are in the us, you can get free access to the epc via the link below. You need to enter a CC number, but it is not charged anything. Free manual renewal each year too.

Thanks for the help guys. Good to know that it's not something that triggers an airbag to go off... that would suck. I'm in Canada but I'll have to look into that... sounds interesting.
I found the place that it mounts, and as I suspected, it can't go back where it mounts unless I remove the bumper cover... or at least some of it. This means that someone had the cover off and didn't put this part back where it belonged.
I noticed something else while I was in there. There is a canister, that looks like it's for controlling gas vapors, on that same side. There is a large fitting, approximately 20mm, that looks like there's supposed to be a hose attached... but there is not. If I remember correctly it's almost separate from the canister and has some wires running to what looks like a pump. Anyone know what this is?
