Turning the light switch to the left; yes the left
Question;
You can turn you light switch one, or two clicks to the left.
The turns on alternating lights.
1 click, turns on the right front running light, and the left rear light.
2 clicks, turns on the left front running light, and the right rear light.
What is this for? It only works when the car is off?

Sounds like there's a glitch in your wiring.
Turning 1 click left should turn on right side lights.
Turning 2 clicks left should turn on left side lights.
These are 'parking lights', and are used in Europe, when parking your car on dark, narrow streets. Having the low-wattage lights on helps the the folks on their way home from the brau-haus to see (and hopefully avoid) your beloved MB.
I like having them, and use them when parked in front of friend's houses. Starts some really interesting conversations ("you left 1/2 of your lights on", etc.).
