AT fill tube cover and locking pin question

Hi - newbie to your forum, but long time MB owner. Yesterday I noticed the fill tube for my automatic transmission had no cover. I even thought someone had stolen or failed to return the dipstick. Subsequently I discovered the tranny is sealed and there is no dipstick and I needed to buy a cover (140-270-00-91) plus the little red locking pin (140-991-00-55). I stupidly stuck the pin in the cover to see how it fit. Seeing I couldn't pull it out then I broke the head off the pin, but finally dug the "key" part out of the cover. Are these covers meant to be re-used or do you just destroy it when taking it off? Thanks!

after a trip to my dealer today I can answer this myself! The cover is meant to be reused, but the red plastic key is destroyed upon removal. It's really meant to be tamper proof or at least be a flag that it has been tampered with since the top part easily breaks off.

RRP is absolutely correct. I am an MB tech. We use a shop tool (incremented dipstick) to verify proper ATF level at different temperatures.

Thank you for your confirmation! I thought maybe being a newbie I had posted my question on the wrong part of the forum.
