MB rentals from Hertz in USA & Europe

Hi guys, just want to share a little bit of our experience of our trips to Europe & USA last year where we rented MB's from Hertz to get us around.

In August '11 we headed over to Stuttgart and visited the MB Customer Centre and did the guided factory tour of the C-Class production line. It was truly amazing and if you're a Benz freak like me you'll love it! Right next door is Stuttgart's main MB dealership and taking a walk through there was mindblowing also. The dealer has an 'old timers' section where there's some classic old Benz's for sale with very low miles and in immaculate condition. Certainly worth a look.

Of course we couldn't go to Germany without driving on the Autobahn so we rented an brand new (only 8,000kms on the odometer) S350L CDI from Hertz and headed off to Munich. Drove at 160km/h most of the time, but had a few squirts up to 200 which was super fun, but just felt a little unsafe. 150-160 was quite comfortable though, as you'd expect in an S-Class. Here in Aus our maximum speed limit is 110 on some of our bigger highways, but usually 100 in most places. So to be able to travel at speeds of 150+ legally was just insane! We had to fly out from Munich so we handed back the car at the airport. A few days later we were in Austria and rented an E220 CDI for 4 days, driving from Innsbruck to Vienna over a few days, through the Austrian alps etc. The max speed limit in Austria is 130km/h so it wasn't quite as much fun as Germany.

Then in January earlier this year we headed over to the US. Rented a GLK350 for a week from Hertz again, and drove from San Francisco down to LA. After the first week we swapped into a GL450 and drove from LA down to Palm Springs, across to the Grand Canyon, Page Arizona (to see Antelope Canyon), then over to Vegas for a few days then back to LA. Just awesome. The GL was a fantastic vehicle to travel in. Can't wait for the new X166 GL to make it into Hertz's fleet, then we'll probably head over to the US again, to the East Coast this time, and drive from NYC down to Alabama to do the MBUSA factory tour, and maybe down to Florida.

Cheers from the land of Aus!!
