Dead Battery

Battery dead because light got knocked to ON position from Auto (come on Mercedes how about a time out feature). Jump started the car, everything works ok except the the controls on the drivers door, windows, mirror, door lock, seat adjust etc. Is this a "reset" function or will I need to take it to the dealer??

BKing08 It would be a wise idea to purchase or get the use of a battery charger to bring the battery back to full power. It is not a good idea to run the car and let it chrge itself as the alternator is only meant to bring back the battery after a start which is minimal and then to supply additional for the running of the car. If you are in US maybe pull the battery and let a place like Autozone or Pep boys, you get the idea and they will check and charge the battery for you. Good luck
Also if battery is over 5 years old, just replace it, good insurance that will not leave you stranded. Interstate has a good AGM battery that will work well.

After battery power has been lost several of the items you mentioned (Windows, etc.) need to be "Normalized".

Your owners manual should describe this procedure. If not, let me know and I will dig up the WIS support document for you.

Your dealer could also do this for you and generally will gratis.

critter is correct in that modern alternators were never meant to be used to
resurrect a flooded cell battery which has undergone deep discharge. alternators
are designed for maintenance charges.

a variety of conditions need to be examined for proper recharging but the
simplest suggestion would be to trickle charge, while at the same time, replenish
with distilled water (only if flooded cell design, NOT AGM), then trickle overnight,
even days...while monitoring specific gravity and voltage.
