Good Aftermarket Warranty?

What Aftermarket Warranties have you used?

Where they good?

Where they bad?

I am thinking about getting one on my soon to own 2008 GL320, and want to make sure I don't end up paying 2,000 to 3,000 on a worthless piece of paper.

I have dealt with aftermarket warranty companies before on previous Mercedes cars I have owned. My feelings are mixed on these companies and at the end of it all, I should have just used Mercedes warranties. For any repairs, you have to get it approved and inspected if they are covered. There is no such thing as a true bumper to bumper warranty like Mercedes. Before the repairs are made, you have to call the company, or your MB service specialist has to call the company. Approvals have to be made phone. All these things are a hassle when you just want to get your car repaired. You can probably save some money but its just too much of a hassle.

If you get it from MB, you drive in, have the repair done, then drive out. 100% HASSLE FREE.

I am looking at cars that might be beyond MBs extended warranty, and also might like to keep the option of taking it to other then a MB dealer for some service.

If that is the case, then I suggest you go to your MB dealership and ask them which "aftermarket" warranty company have they dealt with (outside of the official MBUSA) and that they prefer to work with. The Service Manager should have a list of companies where he could say "This company is great and we like them...." or "We hate dealing with that company because they reject all our claims....", etc.

You can ask the same thing from your Indi mechanic.

I got one name from the Dealer (Old Republic) but seems to be a program sold by dealers that you can't get directly. (Still checking)

Did not think to ask the indie shop. Thanks.

I am also looking for an extended warranty. Mind letting us know what you find out? I will ask my indie MB mechanic as well.

So far it seems that AMT and Royal seems good, but they are sold by lots of different companies at very different prices sometimes with differing levels of coverage.
