Please Help! engine oil quantity ?
Since then I have been getting the error message that warns that the engine oil level is too high and advises me to reduce oil level.
after consulting my owners manual:
I tried to measure how much oil is actually in there by using the computer but that leads me to be dragged back and forth by these 2 messages: "to measure oil, turn engine on" or "engine oil: not while engine is on" - which I find absolutely ridiculous, but i digress.
I used the other method of turning the key to the position where the power is on but engine is off and press the odometer button 3 times fast to enter into what I believe is called "dyno" mode. then i turn the engine on and let the car idle in park and there is a reading for engine oil that ranges from 5.6 to 6.2 QUARTS (no liters). I've done this 4 times with varying amounts of oil being the result -- I assume its related to how level the pavement is that I'm parked on.
From what I've read, a 2004 c230 Kompressor should be running fine on 5.6 to 6.2 quarts of oil, so I'm figuring one of the two messages is incorrect, but I don't know which one.
A) I'm worried that the "reduce oil warning" is a false alarm and if i let oil out, i will actually be running on too little oil.
B) I'm worried that the reading of ~5.9 quarts of oil while idling in park is inaccurate and i'm actually running with too much oil.
Any advise would be supremely appreciated.
