Euro Delivery Cost Savings?

I just finished the final fiancing paperwork for my trip to the MB delivery center in Germany in 15 days. Now that all the planning, etc. is finally coming to a conclusion, I would offer the following to anyone else planning to do Euro delivery on a new Benz.
  • Get pre-qualified for a loan.
Knowing how much a lender will cover you will take a lot of anxiety out of the planning process. Lenders use different ways of determining your credit worthyness then they used to. Credit score alone isn't it. Also, run your own credit reprots a few months before looking at financing and fix any errors before it's too late.
  • Be prepared to start paying for the car before you get it delivered.
The dealer I worked with told me that we would not get any of the financing peperwork submitted until a couple of weeks before leaving for Germany so I would not have a car payment until just before the car made it stateside. I'm leaving in late March, my first payment is in April and I probably won't see the car til mid-June. I'm currently leasing another car, so I'll be making payments on two cars for three months. Going by what i was initially told, I planned on paying for two cars for one month.
  • Beware of Dealer Add on's
This is a no brainer, but the dealer add on's are nuts. if I signed on for everything they had to offer, it would have added an additional 22K to the loan. I have also discoved that MB extended warranty costs vary widely by the dealer, so it pays to shop around. $1200 for 5 years worth of paintless dent repair? Who gets that many dents?

Wel..those are my observations so far. I plan to recap the trip once I get back so stay tuned.

More to the financing story...I had a e-mail converstaion with my salesperson explaining that I was a little suprised I had to start paying for the car so early. He asked me if i was using MB for financing and I said I was since they are one of the only one's who will do Euro delivery. He said when you use MB Financing and do Euro Delivery, the first payment dosen't start until 60 days after you sign the paperwork. The goal is to finalize things as close to your departure date as you can. He got back with the finance manager who was not aware of that detail and they are going to correct the error and resend the paperwork.

He is misinforming you. I had the same promise, and went through a world of nonsense with the dealership about the 60 day deferment. I even spoke with a liason from MBFinancial due to all the stink I created with everyone at the dealer, MBUSA, and MBFinancial. He stated - when purchasing a car ED, the interest rate is higher than normal purchase - thus they can do a 60 day deferment. - if you have them set up payment to begin normal - you get the normal rate they offer. just an FYI - my dealer set up the paperwork wrong, my first payment came out before car even made it to port, and I got the dealership to refund me the first month payment.

Here is another issue to my Euro Delivery experience - In NJ, the car is considered an import (out of country) purchase and is title that way, has to go through Trenton and takes at least 2 weeks to get a title, and since its purchased with no dealer name, they cannot issue a temp.

Considering my car has been at the dealership for over a week, and I still am no where closer to taking delivery - I am sorry I went through all this, Hopefully if you are not in NJ it seems you won't have the Motor vehicle issue,

Ordered car - End of August 2013
Picked up car - February 2014
Car delivered to dealership - 3/14/14
Now I wait for title - 3/25/2014

At least the euro trip was great, Hope you are patient.

Not so sure about that. i'm getting the same intrest rate they are offering anyone who uses MB for financing. I could get a lower rate elsewhere, but no one would do financing on a car that isn't here. i checked a couple of lenders locally and got that story first hand. As far as the registration goes, the dealer is the MB dealership I ordered the car from and as long as I pay license and registration fees prior to taking delivery, I take delivery of the car while the titling is underway. the only delay i see is in being not able to get the car refinanced until I get the title. I guess every states car registration process is different. Well see how things go. it's too late for me to do anything differnt at this point. i'll report back so the next person is aware.

if you are getting the same rate as anyone else, than you are def not set up with a 60 day deferment as the same case for me. Meaning that they did not do the paperwork correctly and if you choose to have them change, I would bet they will not be able to offer the same rate. Just my 2 cents from my experience.

Ok..got it. Must not be the true deferal then. It works out to 50 days for me. Not a big deal to me. All of the paperwork is a hassle. you tend to get a different answer with everyone you talk to. Same thing when i was researching a deler to go through. All different. Thanks..
