Motorweek had feature on stick control steering.
You guys should check out the latest Motorweek. Jennifer Khasnabis went to Stuggart and interviewed one of Mercede's engineers and drove the stick control steering technology installed on an SL.
It looked really strange. No wheel, no brakes, essentially driving with your wrist. There's a small joystick where the armrest is located and also one between the seats. They said there's still legal issues regarding having an automated system controlling a car. There's no failsafe and all cars must have a back up system in place. Apparently from the rumors though they're going to push the technology by 2006. The joysticks looked like the cheap ones you use to fly computer games at home. Looks like you're playing Top Gun, not driving. She did say it took about 20 minutes to get used to it, but she drove really smoothly.
Keep your eyes out!!
