What makes a NASCAR motor special?

Sorry if wrong forum-- what makes a NASCAR motor as powerful as it is and as durable?

What separates it from street cars?

Thanks

They are hand built with tolerances that production engines rarely approach. Every component is matched and the engine is "blueprinted" and balanced to perfection. They used to cost $50k, now that's probably double that or more.

NASCAR motors are hardly durable in the traditional sense. They are made to run for 500 miles give or take, and some will blow up before that. After that they get torn down and rebuilt (or replaced) before the next race.
