Saving a Google Maps route (not destination) to Comand Navigation

So most people here will know about the Google Maps Send to Car function - it is well documented in the user manual and online. You can send a destination from Google Maps to your car, which can then be used by the Comand navigation system. Unfortunately there is no equivalent way to send a route from Google Maps to your car via MB's servers.

Most times, sending a destination from Google Maps and relying on the in-built navigation is good enough. However there may be times when you'd like to plan a route on Google Maps and use that route in your car. For example, you might want to plan a special or scenic route. Or you want to use Google Maps hold-and-drag feature to generate a new route. Or you are planning a road-trip using Google Maps with multiple stop-over points.

To provide a solution for these situations, I've written a little freeware utility program which will take a route from Google Maps and create one or more gpx file(s) on your SD card which can be then imported into the Comand navigation system. The utility program, plus detailed operating instructions can be found here:

I hope it may prove useful for members on our forum.

Malcolm

Hi all,

I had some feedback that the kml conversion wasn't working for Google My Maps in languages other than English. This has now been fixed - if you were affected, please download the program again. Apologies to anyone who encountered the bug.

Regards,
Malcolm
