Gullwing Abuse
I watched a French movie called Elevator to the Gallows from 1958 the other night. In it a 300SL Gullwing is featured any shown going down a highway, through a city and racing a '51-'52 Chevy through Paris. The Chevy finally catches up with the Merc when the passengers stop at a motel for the night, and the Chevy is allowed to roll (crash) into the back of the Gullwing. The car is featured further into the movie, but throughout, the car is treated as just an old used car. I was left speechless.

That's what it was in 1958, though. We'll all be saying the same thing in 50 years watching James Bond trash a DB9 or the Transporter hammering a pre-Bangle 7 series BMW (I mean, I do that *NOW*, but still ...).

I know, I know. When I was 15 (early 70's)a couple of my buddies used to walk down to the local Taco Tico (think Taco Bell). The late 20 something manager had a Gullwing as his daily driver and let us careless teenagers climb in his car as if it was on a used car lot, which is where he had bought it!
