GLK350 Oil Changes

I apologize if there is already a thread related to this that I have not come across...

My fiancee wants to buy a used, low mileage GLK350. I am slightly hesitant because I have always been one to manage the general maintenance issues of our vehicles and I do not want to take in the car to be serviced every 10K.

Does anyone do their own oil changes and general maintenance? If so, how much different is it than non-luxury cars, what to watch out for, etc.?

Thanks

Anyone can change the oil on a Mercedes. You could go to a Valvoline Instant Oil Change for about $70 bucks and get a full synthetic oil change. Although if the vehicle still has a warranty I would suggest going to a dealer until that expires. Also, check out the insurance costs for a Mercedes before purchasing. They may surprise you. You should also consider gas prices because Mercedes recommends premium gas, but you don't "have" to use it. I typically use mid grade in my c300 and premium in my GLK.

Thanks. I have read that insurance for a Benz will come at a premium. Is there anything in particular to be careful of when changing the oil or is it fairly standard? Have you had any issues with your GLK?

I've never changed the oil myself. I always take it to the dealer because it currently under warranty. I have a few issues with the GLK. I have a vibration in the wheel and seat that will not go away and very loose steering ( Although that does seem to have improved) . I have taken it to the dealer almost every day last week and they have yet to address my concerns. On top of that, they scratched my bumper and refuse to fix it. The paint seems very cheap compared to my C300. My front bumper is getting chipped from daily driving. I'm not saying that its a bad car, but it does have its issues.
