Is there a way to make a complaint about a dealer to MB?

Hey everyone,

I just bought a 2011 CL550 with only 9000 miles on it. Great car...

I wanted to get the navigation updated on it and I've been in contact with some very nice members here that explained the process to me.

There is a CD that you buy which is only for that 1 car. Then there is an activation code you get from the dealer and you just do the update in your driveway. Takes about 75 minutes.

Well I called few dealers in the area and I was told the CD is 80-90 dollars and the activation code is 200-300 dealers (2 dealers in palm beach county, fl)

I then called Mercedes Benz of Pompano and was told the cd is 36 dollars and the update is 183 dollars, but it must be done at the dealer. according to them it is not possible to do the update on your own and it is a dealer must do service... I said well ok for 183 it's not too bad so I'll bring the car in. I made my appointment for 3 PM the 3-4 days later and asked to speak with the service rep about it. The service rep didn't pick up, so I called again and left a voicemail this time.

I never got a call back from the service rep, so I went to he dealer. He didn't really understand what was going on and kept asking what was wrong with it. I told him nothing, but just want the update. He then called someone and got me a price of 270. I explained no way and told him about my phone conversation from few days earlier.

I ended up speaking with the parts manager (who handles selling the CD and the activation code I guess) and He kindly told me it is not possible to do the update on your own and the car has to be plugged in to a machine. I told him I've seen plenty of people do it themselves with the code and it's even in the manual. He said you probably heard it on forums or something but I've been doing this for X amount of years and it can't be done. The manual is wrong.

Well I said Ok fine and signed for the 183 (which is the 1 hour labor) and the CD which ended up being 45. He told me he needs to car the stay overnight (not sure what the point of making an appointment is for an hour long update).

He explained to me that the car needs to communicate with the satellites because that's how they do the update and also wifi and "you know how those things are" always going down so if it resets we have to restart it.

I just rolled my eyes and said OK. He told me he'll call me in the morning and let me know but it will be done in the afternoon...

Well fast forward to today I never got a call from him. I called service and was told the tech is working on it and he'll call me back in a few minutes. An hour passed and nothing. so I called back and I still couldn't get in touch.

I said I'll be there at 4, and I want my car back whether it's done or not. I guess he said "sure you can have your car back when you pay me the hour labor" and that these things take a while...

I'm just furious over this whole thing and will speak with the GM, but I'm confident it won't go anywhere.

so I'd like to know if there is someone from MB that I can make my complaint to. If the service isn't done and I have to pay the hour labor get my car back, I'd like to somehow get that money back.

I haven't had bad service like this before. Even Chevy with my Volt and my Corvette has treated me better than this. Very disappointed.

Straight from the manual:

The digital data generated by the map
software becomes outdated in the same way
as conventional road maps. Optimal route
guidance can only be provided by the
navigation system in conjunction with the
most up-to-date map software. Information
about new map software versions can be
obtained from an authorized Mercedes-Benz
Center.

You can install new map software yourself
using one or more DVDs, depending on the
size.

The installation process can take between 10
and 120 minutes depending on the size of the
map software

The six-digit activation code is
available at your authorized Mercedes-Benz
Center. Contact your authorized Mercedes-
Benz Center if you lose the activation code or
if COMAND does not accept the code that you
received.
Just furious over the whole thing.
