Replacement for CLK500, help wanted
While traveling on the freeway this weekend, a deer decided it wanted to cross the road, and unlike the chicken, he didnt make it to the other side. Talking with insurance, they will most likely total the car, so I am looking for a replacement. I figured I would come here to ask for some help.
Id like to keep the price between 10-20k. The lower the price, the more I can modify it to be my own car. If a car is at the higher end of that range, Id like it to have a bit of power already (ex, e55 with a pulley and tune)
Some things I loved about the CLK:
Power - the v8 was awesome for a daily
Reliability - owned the car for 4 years, very few problems (and I do most of my own maintenance)
Bpillarless - Id love this feature in my next car, but not required
Interior - the w209 has one of the best interiors IMHO for its price range
Some things that could be improved:
Transmission - the 5 speed was slow and didnt always listen when you told it to change gears manually
Cars Ive been considering:
CLK55\550 (obvious upgrade to my 500)
E55\63 (dont like the 4 doors, but great cars)
RS6 (twin turbo v8 and awd for winter)
CTS-V
Has anybody owned both the CLK550 and an E550 coupe? Id like to hear the comparison. I think the CLK550 probably has a nicer interior, but I believe the E550 had the MCT gearbox.
