Why are some BMW models more expensive than Mercedes?

Why are some BMW models more expensive than Mercedes?
For example, the bmw 6 series and the new X5 are both more expensive than Mercedes rivals. Why is that? Shouldn't Mercedes be more expensive than BMW as always? Is it possible that bmw is starting to become more expensive than Mercedes? That would be awful since bmw in no way compares with Mercedes lol.
BMW 640i: $77,600 (and that's the cheapest 6 series trim, 650i can go all the way up to the 100K range while no regular CLS can be that expensive)
Mercedes CLS: $74,850
BMW X5: $55,500
Mercedes GLE class: $52,000
used to be that every Mercedes MSRP was more expensive than BMW. Guess it's not the same anymore.
