Question 35% Import Tax on German Cars

During the recent Presidential trip to Europe, a 35% import tax on German cars was mentioned. Does anyone know when it might take effect? I was thinking of upgrading from my 2010 E-class to a new one. Should I rush to do it before the Import tax takes hold. Thanks worried in NY

Think about it, a $ 70k E-class will be close to $100k !!!

Is it only on imported cars that are all finished?
Like, could MB import all the parts but assemble it in the U.S. to skip the tax?
I know they already build some C-classes and SUVs in the U.S.
IMO the American manufacturers need the competition, otherwise they'll have no motivation to improve. The imports keep 'em on their toes!
