Mercedes Wins Five Awards at the 2004 Autonis Design Competition

Most successful car brand voted by the readers of mot and Auto-Straßenverkehr
For the third time in succession, Mercedes-Benz is the most successful car brand in the "Autonis" design competition. The cars bearing the Mercedes star won this coveted design award in five of the twelve scoring categories. All in all 54,000 readers of the magazines "mot" and "Auto-Straßenverkehr" took part in the vote from a selection of more than 290 car models. The award ceremony was held in Berlin yesterday evening.

As in 2002 and 2003, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class once again achieved a resounding victory in the "Autonis" reader vote: the Saloon received 59.5 percent of the votes and won the design award in the "Upper Medium Class" category by a significant margin over the runner-up.

The CLK-Class also asserted its peak position among the coupés, winning the "Autonis" award for automotive design for the second time. The CLK Cabriolet proved just as popular, obtaining the most votes in its category.

The double victory by the SLR McLaren (1st place) and the SL-Class (2nd place) in this year’s "Autonis" competition also proves that the world’s most desirable dream cars bear the Mercedes star. More than 55 percent of the "mot" and "Auto-Straßenverkehr" readers voted for these two sports cars, which meant that Mercedes-Benz easily dominated the "Dream Car" category.

Outstanding design quality is also the hallmark of the Vision CLS, which Mercedes-Benz presented at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt (Main) in September 2003. This stylistic and conceptual study for an innovative four-door coupé won the "Autonis" award in the "Studies" category. The Vision CLS provided the basis for the new Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, which celebrated its world premiere at the beginning of March 2004. In autumn this year the four-door coupé will appear in the showrooms of the company-owned sales outlets and authorised Mercedes-Benz dealers.
