New Benz Buying Tips?

I have never owned any MB vehicles (but plenty of other German cars, including a new 991). I am now looking hard at a new E400 Wagon. Given the relative rarity of these, even finding one to test took some effort. If you all can tolerate some newby questions, I would sure appreciate answers.

First, any experience and insights on ordering custom builds? I have been through this before with Porsche. What would a reasonable discount from MSRP look like, given I have no prior dealer relation?

Likewise, for buying an exsiting vehicle, what price flexibility do dealers have (and ultimately offer)? I should add that I have no "local" dealer. The nearest is more than 200 miles away, in another state; the nearest in-state dealer is closer to 300 miles. And any more "dealer motivation" to sell 2017 models?

Thanks!
