Fast Mercedes
I have a SL500 and am now looking for a fast Sedan. My price range however is under $20,000 I know that I may have to have something that is about 7 to 12 years old and possibly over 100,000 miles. Right now I am looking at the E55 AMG models but wonder whether there are others that I should consider? Are the V12 models reasonable for an intermediate DIY person? Any other suggestions, AMG or not?
Thanks

V-12's fun but not cheap in terms of parts and repairs. Newer models more reliable that the older ones, but still a very complex engine and design.
E55 is awesome if you can find a good one, preferable 2004-2006.
Although harder to find, might also consider a C55, 2005-2006, or a C32.
Look at the classified section here as new sales posts come up semi-frequently.
IMHO, if you want an AMG (My preference as most are overbuilt), make sure you find one for sale from a member enthusiast here if possible, as most AMG guys take very good care of these cars and have extensive documentation based on previous buying experiences.
100k+ miles is nothing for these cars if maintained on a regular basis.

Buy a CLS55 AMG there are only 2006 year, i have two CLS's 500 with the AMG package its same M113 engine but without supercharger and i have an E500 same engine too an can handle a lot of miles my E500 is 200k miles now, the E55 AMG and the CLS55 AMG share same drivetrain and i saw a youtube video of a E55 with 401k miles on it, the advantage is that you have the reliable 5 speed transmission in the 55's instead the 7 speed on the 500's, and the fun part its since is an supercharged engine you can change the pulleys, add a tuning chip, add a bigger intercoolers, straightpipe exaust and you'll have a beast. I have a CL 600 V12 but non turbo, i cant say nothing about reliability i only have 3k miles with it with a total of 117k and drives good despite some isolated rough idle issues (maybe coilpacks) but is not my DD car, i barely use it once a month, i jus bought it because i found it on aution and i got it really cheap, i buy it for 2500 USD total, and maybe the coilpacks and sparkplugs will run another 2500 USD.
