Considering an E-class Wagon
OTOH, I'm used to driving fast. I don't think I could drive anything slower and be happy with it. Every time I drive the wife's car, it's pure misery. Slooooooow. So I started thinking about an E-class wagon. I could, of course, go AMG E63 wagon. But I'm not made of money (and even if I were, I'm disinclined to throw away tens of thousands in depreciation), so the current gen e63 wagon is totally off the table. And I don't care for the design pre-2010, so pre-2010 AMG wagons are also off the table. I really like the design and features of the current gen - a LOT. The things are damned sexy inside. In current gen, if I dug around for a gently used CPO or something, I could probably make it work for the budget... if it was an E400. That and the E400 actually has the third row seat. The E63 doesn't. Not a total game killer, but an issue.
E400 is kind of slow, though. ~5.2 0-60. 13+ 1/4 mile. I test drove one and it was... close, but not there. Renntech has a tune for it here: https://www.renntechmercedes.com/ind...e400-bt-detail
Don't know if anyone here has tried that tune. Looking to get around 4.5 0-60, and low 12s in the 1/4 mile without spending a ****load of money and completely blowing up the warranty. That'd be roundabout what I get out of the 'stang, and I could be happy with that, if the Renntech tuned car could do that. No idea, though, if that's possible. It's hard finding stats on the wagons, or people who do a lot of mods on them.
If that's not possible, then it's older gen e63 wagon, and I've gotta hunt for one that's reasonably cheap.
Thoughts?
