Are diesels more reliable then gas?

Hi all!

New to MBW, so got few questions for y'all.

1. Are diesels more reliable then gas? (i've heard they were)
2. If you were to pick a late model (any 80's) with the most reliability and longevity, what would it be? Not looking for performance.
3. Are the parts easy to obtain since it will most likely be over 15 years old?
4. Anything else that I should consider before buying my 1st Benz?

Thanks for all your help. Feel free to AIM or PM me.

1) Yes. Diesel's go forever as long as they're properly maintained.
2) 1981 240D. Will go FOREVER if maintained right. 67 RWHP, 80mph top speed, absolute blast to drive.
3) Should be through a MB Dealership.
4) Don't think performance if you're going to buy a Diesel.
