Daimler Group To Halt Development Of IC Engines; To Go Full Electric

According to this article "Daimler Group To Halt Development Of IC Engines; To Go Full Electric".

This is exciting news. I have driven 8 Mercedes since 1997. When I got a new lease last month, I was seriously considering a Tesla or Hyundai Kona EV. The dealer offered me a great deal on a C300 Coupe to keep my business. I was hoping that I cvvould get a Mercedes EV by 2022, when my lease comes ends. It looks like I will have a lot of Mercedes EV options by then.

It looks like the ICE is on its way out.

Time to find another brand for me...

When you have long drives (over 250 miles) having the ability to quickly "Recharge" the fuel tank makes for quicker trips.

If I had to recharge by plugging into an outlet and wait 24 hours after every 200 miles - CRAZY time to get back into flying or check out trains as even those would be faster...

Most of America is Rural and finding an open gas station is hard enough... imagine trying to find recharge station...

Feel sorry for those in Midwest farm country.

In 3 years, EVs will have more range, and chargers will be quicker. There will be a lot more chargers.

Right now, Porsche is claiming its new Taycan can charge in 22 minutes.

If I could "fill up" an EV at home, I think I'd have enough range to last me all week.

No charging

It's not just range. You have to have a garage to use an electric car. This rules out the little people who park on the street or, in my case, in the parking spaces of an elderly housing facility. So the well-off can keep "personal mobility" (for now), reducing the opposition to the ultimate goal of the "reform society" types, which is to "get people out of their cars." In the meantime, the rest of us (some in their 80s and 90s and disabled) are "volunteered" to try to find a bus stop. (There are none in most of our REGION.)

22 mins is still a long time versus pumping gas.
and what does it do to battery life
What happens if their is a line at charge station... ouch...

And again in rural america it will be a long time before enough charging stations to make one think about electric car..
Heck gas stations are rare on interstate in someplaces... many exits with nothing but a cross road to some small town.

I can see it in cities on coasts but heck would it not be better if those peeps just took the BUS or SUBWAY?

In 3-5 years, there will be more chargers and bigger batteries. In 10 years, who know? But I assume technology will improve with demand.

Just remember, at some point, everyone was riding horses. We made the transition from that to cars pretty well.
