W202 C55 vs new C55 ?

On paper it looks like a W202 C55 would win because it is lighter. The only disadvantages would be gearing and tire size, but of course those can be changed also.


So which cars are faster:

W202 C55 vs W203 C55?

W202 C43 w/Kompressor vs W203 C32 and C55?

W202 C55 w/Kompressor vs everything fast?
(This car is out there)


Last but not least:

You in your car sitting in traffic vs a man with a cane walking?
(like in office space)

No. There is a W202 C55 out there (very rare) MB produced a few, I have the Mercedes Enthusiast - "C-Class Salute" Issue, and seems like MB sold (or you could have ordered) a W202 C55 in UK/Europe.

In the US there have been a few C55 conversions (one was on Ebay a while back) and there is also a C55 with a Kompressor on it that runs a 1/4 mile in the high 11s.

Ok I pulled out the mag, it says there were only 30 W202 C55 built at Affalterbach.

0-62 times from the same mag. (always on the high side):

W202
C36 = 6.9
C43 = 6.5
C55 = 5.5

W203
C32 = 5.2

I don't buy these times at all:

The W202 C55 weighs: 1,570kg has 347 bhp and 376 lb/ft

The W203 C32 weighs 1,635kg has 354bhp and 332 lb/ft.

And they say the C32 is faster, not a chance. The W202 C55 should beat a the new one also.

I also heard from someone, I think either a mechanic or a salesman somewhere, that MB used to make a C55. I couldn't ever find any info about it, but they said it wasn't very good since it was too nose-heavy with that huge V8 in there. The person actually mentioned it because he was talking about how he hoped the new C55 wouldn't have the same weight ratio problems. Since I never heard about it again, I assumed the guy was referring to the C43, but it's good to know that salesmen CAN be right every now and then... :p

Yes it's about power/ratio... But have you ever considered the power loss through the transmission?

and if you don't buy those times... why ask? You believe what you want to believe...

I have heard only about 30 w202 C55 were ever built, 6 of them C55T between 1998-2000. E36 M3 euro version was faster and quicker than C43. w202 C55 was the answer to that they say. 0-62 in 5.5 seconds. there were minor interior and exterior differences. 2000 model had the mono 170 5 spoke wheels(which were much lighter than monoIIs, about 22lbs each)
300km/h speedo which is about 180m/h. (Euro C43s had 280km/h speedo)
C55 badge. and 2000 model had a different antenna(smaller on the roof)

That redish color was designo for only C55. the interier was 2 tone as well. same redish color/black.

parktronic was also offered in europe as options for C-class vehicles.

C43 kompressor made 430hp. and kleemann claims at least 1 second gain in 0-60. which puts C43K in 4.7-4.9 range which is about the same as C32/55

C55K should be quicker. But i have heard of the same complain. It was too nose heavy. and expensive for a C -class.

But if i was holding the keys to w202 C55 and w203 C55, i would take w202. I love how w202 looks.

Very rare C28 AMG



I bought my car this way, just removed the "0" to compliment the AMG theme

the mechanic I bought it from said it was in a minor rear ender
so body work/paint was done, new trunk and later model bumper
also a Lorinser exhaust

notice a slight gap different on the trunk lip and body
I'm thinking of realigning it to make the gap more even on either side
