Question Question About Classic Mercedes

I am looking to buy a 1973 280. It's in great shape, but needs some rust repair in the rear quarters below the bumper and the driver's front floor and front sills/fender well area. I look through the links on this site, but could not find any good sources for reproduction body panels.

Can any of your recommend a good site for searching and purchasing replacement body panels and other parts for these classic Mercedes?

Also, what is the "W" designation for this car? I have seen W114 in some places, but can't find much else in terms of parts availability or model information.

Thanks,
Brian

Check out www.mercedesshop.com. That's the place to go for vintage.

"reproduction" body panels will probably be hard to come by. I would suggest recycling companies like Adsitco, Silver Star Recycling, or Potomac German Auto.

The "W" designation is part of the Chassis model number. In German, "Wagen" is automobile. The roadsters have a "R" chassis designation.

I got it!

Well, for better or worse, I will be taking delivery of my own W114 on Sunday. Need to work on getting the carbs running, but the car overall is in pretty good shape and will buy me some time to fix up the Saab for (probably its last) winter.

I have found some good sites for Vintage information for others interested:

http://www.benzworld.org
http://www.mbcanada.com
http://www.mercedessource.com

Pretty soon I'll have the whole European continent covered!
