Oil change before FSM

I have the an '04 with the free scheduled maintenance. However, I want to get my oil changed before 10,000. I presume I'll pay for the early oil change, but I want to make sure the other 10,000mi checks will be done at same point had I not completed the early oil change.

Anyone know how this would work?

You could take it elsewhere... or do it yourself... or take it to the dealership and ask them NOT to reset the FSS counter.

I'm not sure if they'll charge you for non-FSS work though... generally the warranty covers work done for schedule A/B, but if you take it in "just because" (even though you should), they might want to charge you. I'd suggest you ask them if they will and whether or not they can do it without doing the reset.

It's kind of pricey to get them to do an oil change if they want to charge you labor...

I'm not too worried about the cost for the 5000 mile oil change. I just don't want to miss out on the full 10000 mile service, whatever that is.

But I presume the 10000 mile service visit will be free including the oil change.

Yes, you will have to pay if you are not within a certain amount of mileage of the scheduled service. When you make your appointment, tell them that you do not want your computer re-set, and that you still want to bring it in for the A service at 10k.

The dealer will cost you a lot more than an outside oil change place would. So even though you're throwing your money away (getting un-needed service), you might want to throw less of it away by getting it down outside of MB.

yes you would pay for it but it really is not necessary. you have a big sump and a very good filter medium and whatever the factory fill is in there is doing it's job.

sure there are breakin material and chemicals that are in your crankase, but the oil can suspend it.

here is a UOA with factoy fill done at 5000 miles. the engine is different though from yours, but it has some merit

Thx for all the responses. Very logical. I think I may wait until the computer prompts me the oil change. I will make sure I get the car in there soon after getting a notification.

You can always bring your car in a little earlier or later than the counter says too. At the dealer here, we have seen some cars go 19,000 miles over A service. That isn't too great an idea though.
