From MB to Chevrolet?

I'm getting an urge to buy the new C6 Corvette when the convertible is out. I've seen the coupe in person and it looks pretty darn nice, the interior materials are much nicer and the outer dimensions of the car are much tidier than the C5's. The exhaust note is much more refined. The 400hp and 400lb ft of trq are also tempting. I read that the power to wieght ratio is better than the 996 TT and the car posts the same 0-60 of 4.2 and 115 mph trap speeds.

I know my CLK 500 is a completely different kind of car but I would love a high power convertible sports car again and don't want to spend $100k for an SL or $80k for a 997.

Am I crazy for contempating this?

my .02....

Don't confuse crazy with puppy love. The initial rush of all that power and sports car handling will wear off as you find you can't use it and you'll wish you had the clk back. The clk isn't as sporty but it's as sporty as needs be and a heck of lot more comfortable and practical. If you don't think comfort and practical are important get the
'vette and enjoy it.

Very valid points indeed. The rub is that I've been driving CLK 430's and 500's for the last 5 years 99 00 01 03 & 04 models. I used to be a Porsche fanatic and when I went to the CLK's the speeding tickets stopped and I really enjoyed the V8's instant torque. I really need to spend some time behind the wheel of the C6 but the dealers are treating them like Ferraris for the moment and that moment will be a fleeting one I'm sure.

The car mag's say the ride is much improved over the C5 as is the NV&H (I had a 99 convt for a very, very short time as the exhuast resonance at a certian rpm's drove me insane along with way to many dash rattles...back to the dealer) The power of my 99 was very strong and I can only imagine the C6's 400/400.
Since the chassis is the same as the new $72,000 Caddy XLR I 've got to imagine the car will be pretty solid.

Anyone drive one of these things yet?

Thumbs up

Tough one.

I would think anything associated with Caddy would suck but the if the new Vette platform is on it, Caddy can thank the Vette team for that upgrade.

It would be a hard decesion for sure. I believe I would go with the Benz but the C6 would be very tempting.

I know what you mean about the exhaust note. I have a 99Z28 with heads/cam/headers/everything else and it rocks power wise. Around 2200 rpms (I have 4.10's) my ear drums are 1 db from bursting.

I think the C5's are a solid ride. I hear the C6's are freekn' nice. Good luck with your decesion. The LS2 motor isn't to shabyy.

I've since seen 4 other C6's at 2 different dealerships, the cars with the Z51 perf package are sweet, cross drilled brakes and all. I hope to finally drive one of these soon. The Z06 will be a monster for sure but 400hp and 400trq are plenty for me...we'll see.
