Thought some of you might be interested in this data. I bought a CPO 2017 GLS550 a year ago. Traded in a 2014 GL450. Starting miles were 43,295. Ending today at 52318. So 9k in one year. Best mpg result fill up to fill up 19.41. Worst 12.42. One year average 16.49. Most of the good mpg numbers came from driving back and forth to Galveston where we now live. Trips were about 100 miles each way. $1909 in fuel. One recent "A" service for about $400.00. Insurance with average coverage $1,500.00. So one year cost of ownership is about $3,809.00 or $0.42 per mile. It is really a luxury to keep this car now, as I imagine the annual miles will drop to 5 or 6000. But what to replace it with? Nothing that floats my boat at the moment.....
I don't see any replies to this thread from 9/23 but I was looking into buying a 2017 GLS550 with 74k miles. It's about 29k before trade in....I don't know if it's worth getting into this if the Airmatic system is going to have issues or other major repairs. If you still own this suv how are you doing in the last year with maintenance...thanks. I had a 2009 ML350 in the past with no issues...
Hi. On July 7 I traded it in on a 2024 GLC300. It had about 59k on the clock. The driving force to trade it was the failure of one of the wheel speed sensors, which made the GLS undrivable. Had it replaced locally for $430.00. It's possible that the failure resulted from it being parked outside for a year in Galveston's salt air climate. Otherwise everything else was operating normally. FYI I first looked at a BMW X3. Dealer offered me $26k. Their sister MB dealer in the same lot offered me $27,500. Afterwards I found the car at a nearby Toyota dealer owned by the same corporation, priced at $34K. It was off that dealer's website this past Friday so I assumed it sold. The GLC is now garaged, as my '67 GTO is now for sale at a consignment shop. The salt air was really taking a toll on that car.

M278 V8 engine in the GLS550 is to be avoided at higher mileage/age. Bore scoring is the main issue, together with oil and coolant leaks. Air suspension needs to be viewed as a regular maintenance item in the 100k mile range and beyond - replacing air springs (bags) is the main topic. Lines, compressor and valves are OK as long as they are not overtaxed by failed air springs.
