Mercedes is doing too much rethinking about electrification. The Chinese have already figured out how to do hybrids right. Just look at the Yangwang U8, four electric motors and the four banger gas motor is just a 6kW generator. The EQG580 with EQS technology, or whatever the marketing peeps are calling it, really just plain can't compete.
We have three Mercedes models in the family fleet. All are equipped with V6 engines. If I wanted a 4 cylinder car, I'd be shopping at Hyundai.or Honda. Listen to your customers!

The current typical AMG buyer isn't just after the speed, they are after the character. The ONLY 4 banger with character is the Subaru boxer. I suspect they will never agree with that executive. However.............
That's the current AMG buyer, younger people don't have that same feeling about AMGs of old and may be far more accepting. This maybe what he's referring to.
Or the fact that they will be legislated out of displacement. So, if your only option is a 4, you either get a 4 or you get another car - all of the new cars will be 4's.
