Bought a Mercedes. Dealer told me it was rental..
They said the car was rental, but not like "Sixt" rental – they told it was a paid substitute option for their clients.
My agent checked everything, the interior and exterior were all like new, no paint and body work, the rims and tires were like new too.
However I've been pretty paranoid since then, and my questions are:
– is there such thing as paid substitute dealer cars? I understand they could say anything to sell it, since it was selling since this March.
– when the car arrives, what do I check first to understand the real condition and maybe get the idea how it has been really used and treated?
Any other ideas and thoughts are really appreciated too. For German cars sadly no way to get anything via VIN, and the dealer doesn't give any previous service records...
Thank you

That said. Most every rental company stays on top of service and maintenance. I would SERIOUSLY check under the seats, take out the rear lower cushion...make sure there is nothing there you would not want the police to find. (When I got my Porsche 911 Turbo S - NEW, it had 80mi on it and womens thong panties under jammed into the rear seat area - found in the driveway and ONE HELL of a hard time explaining that to the GF......).
Figure, change every fluid. They may claim it had been done, just do it. With the fluid changes anything that is really really off will generally show its face.
Thanks for a great advice, will do the checks in the first place.
They agreed to perform a service maintenance, which was expected in 4 months. Also I paid for two years of extended warranty, just in case.
