Does anyone know the dates that the various GL engines will be here?
I am most interested in the 5.5L V8 and the V8 diesel

Sure you read it already in the other post, but just heard from the dealer today, Jan 26th, and they told me they were just informed that the GL's will get the new motor......the 342hp 4.7.

Didn't say anything about the larger motor, but at least they are putting the new technology S class motor in the GL.

You can forget about the V8 diesel in the U.S. Would cost a lot to get it up to spec to pass smog testing in the U.S., even on clean diesel due this fall. The 4.0L V8 diesel is not nearly as new as the new 3L V6 in the "Bluetech" diesels coming this fall.

I too wonder why they haven't mentioned a GL550 with various Range Rovers and Cadillac SUV touting 390-403hp.

The new 4 liter turbodiesel V8 just entered production. Search for OM629.

The 4L is just and upgrade of the previous 4L V8 diesel engine. Before it produced 260hp now with some tweaks it makes 306-311hp depending on the model. The V6 is totally new compared to the V8.

Ah, I see what you meant.

The previous one is the OM628 and as you say it would be difficult to have it certified in the US. But I suspect the new OM629 V8 turbodiesel is a BLUETEC® engine, not with a DeNOx catalyst like in the new E320 BLUETEC, but using SCR with Adblue like on the trucks in Europe which is expected in 2-3 years from now.

The GL450 will be using a 4.6L DOHC V-8 that makes 335hp. This engine is also to be used with the late launch S450 MAYBE to be launched in summer or so.
