ClayJ, just go away, obviously you'll have to do a little more in life for your interst in purchasing a GL to become reality, at the very least, get the trailer off your property, well, actually I don't know if the house is nicer or the trailer, which do you prefer Clay?

A little hard to read the scan, but thanks for the heads-up nonetheless! I can't wait to buy a copy of it. I wonder when the May issue is due to arrive in the stores??

I just noticed you had a new ML as well. Are you planning on keeping them both?

Tell me about it!

You know how many threads I have had vandalized in the last 6 months?!!! I don't even bother starting up any supercar or exotic car threads anymore -- quite a loss and a shame for the forums..... Oh well....

Hopefully we can get this one back on topic and keep it there. I expect that MBUSA is going to launch their next big GL advertising and promotion campaign this next month, April. I hope to find out a bunch more, like features, and diesels, and is there going to be an AMG version or not?

I don't think that the 2nd seat fold-down functionability is going to be a deal-killer for me; I still see this car as the perfect size (between the ML and R). I love the 6 or 7 passenger seating (not sure one will be able to comfortably get three adults across the 2nd row bench seating). And I may replace all or most of my current multi-passenger-all-weather vehicles with this one.

i think that the GL is going to be a very good vehicle for mb. it woud be something that i would like my kids to ride in if i had any. those seats look like the ones in the tahoe that fold up.

how many would you have to buy to replace all or most?

It looks so cheap on the inside from the Car and Driver pictures.

As far as I'm concerned, the R230 was the last decent looking car to come out from Mercedes. The rest of the cars (W219 included) look out of proportion or cladded with too much crap on them.

Sure they might look nice in this color or that color, but a car that is designed well looks good in all colors. You can take a yellow R230, versus a black R230 and a white R230 and they all will look fantastic.

I guess I'll wait for the next round of super-SUV's from Lexus before I bash the GL any further..

I've seen a few other places mention the GL63 AMG, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Just think how fast I can get my kids to school and back!!

It won't be a slouch with the V8 from the new S-Class (480hp) -- but I really want an AMG version of it -- and I am very interested in the diesel, too.

480 hp is what the GL450 will have?

LOL Yeah 380 -- dang fingers!

But 380 is still no slouch - 6 and change to 60? With the 7-speed I think that it will move well enough.

I do, however, want an AMG version...and a big V8 diesel.

The GL450 has 335hp, not 382. The GL500 so far hasn't been mentioned by MBUSA yet at least not for the U.S. market. Not sure why.

The GL550 will come with the "same V8 found in the new S550" - meaning 382hp - as quoted.

So far dealers only have the ordering for the GL450, not a GL500 (550). Have you found out/seen different?

I am not sure when the vehicle will show up as available for order in the USA (through MBUSA) in Netstar or at dealerships -- but all of my sources say that it will be starting to be built and available by July....

Maybe one of our members who work in Tuscaloosa has the ability to clue us in? What does anyone really know these days - including MBZ management - what with them introducing so many new models, performing 'refreshments', and trying to go in and capture some market-share in the emerging Asian markets, etc.?

But I do understand that the larger V8 is going to be available this year, as well as the diesel model -- well before the end of the calendar year. LOL Or perhaps I am just being optimistic in believing so?

While it's no SL, I think the W209 CLK is a good looking car, in my opinion. Nearly all of the subsequent cars are over stylized. The two most glaring examples in which style prevailed to the detriment of practicality and function are the CLS and the R.

The new ML and GL are not distinctive compared to the competition, but the exterior styling is not bad. The GL should be at least a foot longer than it is so that it can accommodate not only 6-7 passengers, but also their luggage. I find it inconceivable that the new S-Class is 5 inches longer than the GL, swallows considerably more luggage than the GL and R yet is really built to seat only 4 in comfort.

And don't get me started on the R. Driving dynamics aside, that thing needs to be redesigned from scratch.

Hopefully the Diesel will be out soon and start to be pushed by dealers and recieve some favorable reviews. Will be a great jump on gaining customers once the new CAFE regulations start to go into effect...

That might be the non-US 5.5 liter GL?

It can be ordered already for example in Germany.

I think most of the time I'd have the third row seats folded. I assume that would leave adequate storage space. 7 passengers w/ room for luggage?? YIKES! That would require a large SUV (Suburban, etc.) or van!

I agree. One of the biggest appeals to me is that because of the independent rear suspension, there is enough room to store the 3rd-row flat for when you need it. That way you have TONS of cargo space for 5 people, and if ever the need to haul one or two more people arises, up goes the 3rd row. I can't imagine ever needing to haul 7 people AND their luggage. I'd just rent a Suburban for the day. And if it happens often, I'd throw a clamshell on the roof.

This truck is already enourmous.
