ClayJ, just go away, obviously you'll have to do a little more in life for your interst in purchasing a GL to become reality, at the very least, get the trailer off your property, well, actually I don't know if the house is nicer or the trailer, which do you prefer Clay?

I didn't realize that the ML and GL shared the same front doors. Also, the 2nd row only flips forward for access to the 3rd row on the passenger side.

You know how many threads I have had vandalized in the last 6 months?!!! I don't even bother starting up any supercar or exotic car threads anymore -- quite a loss and a shame for the forums..... Oh well....
Hopefully we can get this one back on topic and keep it there. I expect that MBUSA is going to launch their next big GL advertising and promotion campaign this next month, April. I hope to find out a bunch more, like features, and diesels, and is there going to be an AMG version or not?
I don't think that the 2nd seat fold-down functionability is going to be a deal-killer for me; I still see this car as the perfect size (between the ML and R). I love the 6 or 7 passenger seating (not sure one will be able to comfortably get three adults across the 2nd row bench seating). And I may replace all or most of my current multi-passenger-all-weather vehicles with this one.

i think that the GL is going to be a very good vehicle for mb. it woud be something that i would like my kids to ride in if i had any. those seats look like the ones in the tahoe that fold up.
how many would you have to buy to replace all or most?

It looks so cheap on the inside from the Car and Driver pictures.
As far as I'm concerned, the R230 was the last decent looking car to come out from Mercedes. The rest of the cars (W219 included) look out of proportion or cladded with too much crap on them.
Sure they might look nice in this color or that color, but a car that is designed well looks good in all colors. You can take a yellow R230, versus a black R230 and a white R230 and they all will look fantastic.
I guess I'll wait for the next round of super-SUV's from Lexus before I bash the GL any further..

LOL Yeah 380 -- dang fingers!
But 380 is still no slouch - 6 and change to 60? With the 7-speed I think that it will move well enough.
I do, however, want an AMG version...and a big V8 diesel.

I am not sure when the vehicle will show up as available for order in the USA (through MBUSA) in Netstar or at dealerships -- but all of my sources say that it will be starting to be built and available by July....
Maybe one of our members who work in Tuscaloosa has the ability to clue us in? What does anyone really know these days - including MBZ management - what with them introducing so many new models, performing 'refreshments', and trying to go in and capture some market-share in the emerging Asian markets, etc.?
But I do understand that the larger V8 is going to be available this year, as well as the diesel model -- well before the end of the calendar year. LOL Or perhaps I am just being optimistic in believing so?

The new ML and GL are not distinctive compared to the competition, but the exterior styling is not bad. The GL should be at least a foot longer than it is so that it can accommodate not only 6-7 passengers, but also their luggage. I find it inconceivable that the new S-Class is 5 inches longer than the GL, swallows considerably more luggage than the GL and R yet is really built to seat only 4 in comfort.
And don't get me started on the R. Driving dynamics aside, that thing needs to be redesigned from scratch.
