I purchased the GL 450 because it is the right combination of size, styling and power for my family. I prefer the more traditional look compared to the Acura and Audi. I looked seriously at the lexus GX but did not like how the back door opened or how the 3rd row seats were designed.
So far I have had no problems with my GL450. I am happy with my decision.

2007 GL450
The GL already smokes 'em all in acceleration.
What are you hoping a bigger GL engine will do with respect to a LX470?
You must not read Car and Driver.
I'm selling a GX470 to buy the GL450. The GX was faster than my old LX. That's why I bought it.
The GL450 is the best high-cargo-capacity SUV I could find to buy. I put my money where my mouth is and expect delivery of my personalized GL in the next week or two.

I like the interior of the GL and the power of it a lot.....but for now the somewhat better reliability of the LX seems more appealing.
Maybe when the GL420 CDI comes over here!!

GL or LR3 would be my 7-seater choice. Prefer GL styling but LR3 is unstoppable off-road and that's important to me when buying an SUV. Heard the GL is fairly good though, better tahn the ML apparently.

Was the LX a choice? I think the Land Cruiser/LX is/was one of the best-looking SUVs of the last decade. That design has aged really well. They still look good today, whether on Park Avenue or in Vermont. Look forward to the next one and the new X5 (has anyone driven one yet?).

I voted for GX470 because I own one It is inexpensive, decent 3rd row seating for children, and I can take it to Walmart without worrying about it. And it is perfect as a third vehicle. But if this is my only vehicle than I would probably go with GL450.

Facing same decision. Likely trade in my 2003 X5 this year. Would like to buy MB (better dealer and service dept) but will wait for the 5.5 liter which seems to be offered everywhere but the US. If I have to pull trigger before then, I'll likely go X5 again.

Range Rover Sport?
I see that the R.R. Sport is not on the list as it has a starting MSRP around the GL. I would go with the Sport just because it has a fresh look that always turns my head in traffic!
